Agway was created in 1964 from the merger of three regional cooperatives serving the northeastern US; Eastern States Farmers Exchange, Cooperative Grange League Federation Exchange and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Cooperative Association.

In the early 1990’s, Agway, Inc was experiencing financial hardships and began to sell stores as franchises with Lyndonville Agway being one of the first stores in the Northeast Kingdom to be sold. All Agway stores are now franchises including local stores in Newport, Montpelier, Morrisville, Lancaster, North Haverhill and Littleton.
